Dropping/resetting IP phones

I'm using an S8500 Media Gateway.

Typically, I am able to drop an extension from one of my IP phones by typing reset (73738) and rebooting the phone. Up until this week, when the phone would reboot, it would ask me for the extension. Now, it just boots up to the same extension it had without prompting me to specify which extension that I want it to pick up.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check your 46xxsettings file. Sounds like this field might have changed:

###################### LOGIN SETTINGS ######################
##
## QKLOGINSTAT specifies whether a password must always be
## entered manually at the login screen.
##
## 0 : makes manual password entry mandatory.
## 1 : enables a "quick login' by pressing the
## # key to accept the current password value.
##
SET QKLOGINSTAT 1

I don't have login settings at all in my 46xxsettings file. Where should that be??

I've seen this problem in our system before a while back, and it wasn't every phone, and it was only temporary. I don't remember what was done to fix it, but it eventually worked. I'm the only one that has access to the PC that is running the TFTP server, and I've never made any changes to this file. I'm not sure how someone or something would have made any sort of change at all. Can I insert these settings somewhere in the file to force the phones to ask for the extension after resetting?

Not sure what versions you are running, but have seen in the release notes recently an entry describing this - phones logging back on after being logged out and reset/rebooted. Pay to check the latest release notes for your version.
