I am running OpenVPN under WinXP SP3 to connect to my server network. When I connect to my Win 2003 servers with Remote Desktop, my session drops after a few (2-5) minutes. I am able to PING the server while this happens so the physical connection is up. This problem also occurs when I SSH to my FreeBSD servers but does not occur with OpenBSD. I also have a laptop running Win Vista and have no problems with it.

Any error messages when it drops? How about any messages in event viewer? Got Itunes installed? (it is well documented that bonjour, which is installed with Itunes, will drop some VPN connections.) Do you have updated NIC drivers?

Just a few ideas...

Cheers
Rob

The answer is always "PEBKAC!

Thanks so much for the quick response. No, I don't find any error messages in the Windows event log, the OpenVPN log on the client, or the OpenVPN log on the VPN server. I have the latest TAP driver. I do have iTunes installed. I'll remove it and give that a try.

I removed iTunes and still have the dropped sessions.

Thanks for the help. Yes, Bonjour is not installed. I have posted to the other forums. Thanks again.
