Drop Down Lists Triggering Sub-Lists

I have a drop down list of subject matter; each item of which generates a further two levels of sub-categories. I therefore want to create a situation where a user would click on a main subject category within this list box, and have a sub-category drop-down list appear in another box(dependent on the main category chosen). This sub-category would then need to trigger a further sub-category.

My database users want to be able to do multi-data finds using this information.

I've tried various formulas and I'm not convinced that a triggered multiple-sort is possible. If I'm right, I'd appreciate any comments on the best way of incorporating this type of sort/find within a database.

The table the lists are created from must contain 3 fields representing:

Category
Subcat1
Subcat2

The subcat1 list can be filtered using existing fields. In the Define Filter dialog, filter by the Category field where entries match the value selected in the Category dropdown list.

The second level of filtering can only be achieved by adding text field(s) to the table(s) long enough to combine Category & Subcat1. Define a modification formula:
Combine(Category, Subcat1). Name it Subcat1_2 say. Then you can filter a list created from the Subcat2 field on the value in Subcat1_2

I am a non programmer wanting to have a cascading list of 2 levels.
ie. abc
1
2
3
efg
1
2


Could you explain how I can accomplish this in layman terms.

See if the example in thread180-717634 helps. If not you'll have to explain what you mean by "cascading list of 2 levels" because I haven't a clue and your example doesn't help much.

I am sorry I did not make it clear. Basically, for every selection in the drop down list, I want to add another sub list which would open up when I click on the selection
example - original list is
shoe- sublist of black,blue, white
socks- sublist of black,brown,tan
shirt-sublist of grey, white,

No there isn't such a control in Approach. Have to use two drop down lists, the second of which can be filtered based on the selection in the first list.
