Hello here is my info:

arc serv 2000 SP3
on compaq Proliant ml370
compaq TL891dlx tape drive
restoring to a compaq desktop with floppy disks option.

when restoring the desktop, the arc serv DRO program loads,
and loads the NIC. then comes up with an error message that it needs to have the media ID:0000 Session # "XXXXXXXX" alot of numbers...
and the process stops. I did a full backup of the desktop last night, and the media is ID:4152 Session #1

Any ideas?

Hi,

First of all,
The DR option might not work if you are restoring to a different make and model of a server than the one that was backed up...

However after you did a full backup , did you UPDATE the DR disks using the UPDATE option in the Create Boot kit wizard??
Coz after every full backup a regsitry key is modified with the date and the name of the media that was used for the backup..
If this is a remote DR you are tryin to run, please update the DR disks on the ARCserve server and try the process again..

Hello,
I am backing up a test machine, and trying to restore it. they are the same Hardware. I have the latest DR Disk from the server.

Are you tryin g to do a remote\local backup??

if remote are you using the Host Name resolution on the NT client agent??

I am doing a remote backup, with host name resolution.

Can you cut and paste the Arcserve losg and the job log for the last FULL backup of the remote machine or still better
please zip them up and the contents of the machine specific floppy to speshalyst@yahoo.com

Thanx

I have since the post blown away the server, and started over, I have a Compaq ML370 733mhz server with a Compaq 12/24 DAT tape drive installed. I am backing up a compaq Evo desktop with the arcserv agents, and trying to restore to the same desktop. now I get a dialog box that asks me to assign a session to be restored, whn I click assign, the box is empty and there are no sessions in the list. any help would be great.
Thanks

HI,

On the arcserve machine... you will find a folder called DR.within this you will find another folder specific to the name of the machine being backedup..
look for a file called <machine_name>.drf
open the registry.. regedt32.exe
highlight HKLM.. go to the registry menu and select load hive..
when pormpted select this .drf file and hit "open"
enter the key name... say TEST
this will add a new key in the registry called TEST
highlight "test: on the registry and it should list all the
sessions that were backed up from the remote machine..

it will something like this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\dell]
"DRComputerName"="DELL"
"DRSystemTime"=hex:d2,07,06,00,01,00,11,00,0f,00,0d,00,1a,00,ec,01
"DRVersion"="7.0"
"DRLocalComputerName"="ASEDA01-126"
"BACKUPC_TapeName"="6/17/02 3:07 PM"
"BACKUPC_RandomID"=dword:000034c2
"BACKUPC_SequenceNo"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPC_SessionNo"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPC_FileSystem"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPC_Logical"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPD_TapeName"="6/17/02 3:07 PM"
"BACKUPD_RandomID"=dword:000034c2
"BACKUPD_SequenceNo"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPD_SessionNo"=dword:00000002
"BACKUPD_FileSystem"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPD_Logical"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPE_TapeName"="6/17/02 3:07 PM"
"BACKUPE_RandomID"=dword:000034c2
"BACKUPE_SequenceNo"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPE_SessionNo"=dword:00000003
"BACKUPE_FileSystem"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPE_Logical"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPDRSESS_TapeName"="6/17/02 3:07 PM"
"BACKUPDRSESS_RandomID"=dword:000034c2
"BACKUPDRSESS_SequenceNo"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPDRSESS_SessionNo"=dword:00000005
"BACKUPSYSSTATE_TapeName"="6/17/02 3:07 PM"
"BACKUPSYSSTATE_RandomID"=dword:000034c2
"BACKUPSYSSTATE_SequenceNo"=dword:00000001
"BACKUPSYSSTATE_SessionNo"=dword:00000004

whatedver drives you find here will be displayed when you select to assign sessions.
if you dont find any info here or if they are all '0'.. you wont be able to assign any sessions...

you would have to contact CA support to get a test fix..

Thanx
