Hi,
Wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I have a Laptop and recently formatted it and reinstalled windows xp. I have updated everything possible on the internet but when I look on the device manager I have one yellow question mark with one "unknown device". I have no idea what device this is BUT the sound on the laptop does not work? yet it appears all the correct sound drivers are installed? Is there any way possible I can indentify this mystery yellow question mark and get my sound up n running??? Thanks for your time.
Dan.

Could you specify a little bit your config?!?
I mean the make of your laptop, the soud device you should have and so on ...

Because it's very hard to give you a good advice without these informations :)

Yes I am a MAC lover, and so what :)

You need to go to the support area for the company that made your laptop.. look up your model and drivers.

I would suggest you download all the drivers for your model and then try to either update or install them to the "unknown device

The laptop is a Time 8375. I beleive the mobo is made by Mitac and I have managed to get hold of the full pack of drivers and on the unknown device I've tried to install every single driver individually in that pack and no joy!!!

Do you have a pcmcia slot?
I havent worked on a laptop or owned one for a long time but they still have pcmcia slots. I believe the motherboard drivers will include the pcmcia slot but you may have a card in that slot that needs drivers. It could be one of many types of cards in that pcmcia slot.

What options do you get when you right-click the unknown device? See if you can disable/remove the device and then restart your system.

I try not to let my ignorance prevent me from offering a strong opinion.

I've tried disabling it, still doesn't resolve the no sound problem!! It's really annoying me, trying to get hold of an original restore disc for it from a guy on ebay, any more suggestions?

The 3 reporting programs are good at telling you what your computer has installed, but can't help you on unknown hardware.

Try a google search for "unknown hardware identifier" and download the one it finds. It may help you.
