Drive power lost!

Hi,<br>We've use Dell 4300 servers. On one of them we backup using Arcserve 6.5 every night <br>onto DAT. Sometimes when I return the following morning the log reports that there was an error due to tape drive power being lost and aborts the backup. is the tape drive powered from a ups, if so plug it into the wall.&nbsp;&nbsp;Also install the latest scsi card drivers from the vendor

Is the tape drive a stand alone unit ? if so is it connected to a UPS ?&nbsp;&nbsp;I have seen that a power spike of any kind will cause the tape drive to re-init and reset the scsi bus... once this happens arcserve will timeout communication to the thread being backup and fail the job.&nbsp;&nbsp;hope this helps<br><br>

Change the scsi ribbon cable.....power spikes on internal tape drives hmmm don't think so m8.&nbsp;&nbsp;And JemTCC thank you for repeating what i have already said.&nbsp;&nbsp;You must work in management of something =:-]

Is this fixed yet..? If not, I realise this is a bit of a long shot, but....

Are there any scsi disks on the same controller as the tape.? I have previously had a screwy problem where the disk activity just locked the bus to the tape drives and thus the software considered it to be powered down due to not etting a response on a query.

On the other hand, there is always the possibility that if you have extra disks (whether on the same controller or not!) and have a split power lead maybe the power supply is being overloaded and is intermittantly dropping power to the tape drive...
