Hi !

my problem is that the jbconfig doesn't find the drive's path when I choose the automatic SCSI jukebox configuration.
(I work in Windows enviroment with NW 7.1)

The iquire gives me the following output :

C:\Documents and Settings\atw01129>inquire
scsidev@3.0.0:HP C7200 1520|Autochanger (Jukebox), \\.\Changer0 S/N: FF63FFFDBFBBFF1B77EB3B2D

x?=scsidev@3.2.0:HP Ultrium 1-SCSI E36R|Tape, \\.\Tape0 S/N: HUB3H019DN ATNN:HP Ultrium 1-SCSI HUB3H019DN

scsidev@4.1.0:HP Ultrium 1-SCSI E36R|Tape, \\.\Tape1 S/N: IE71G02262 ATNN:HP Ultrium 1-SCSI IE71G022

And the jbconfig gives the following :

Please enter the device path information in one of the following formats:

\\.\Tape0 --for local path or
host:device-path --for remote node or
host:drive-letter:directory path --for Windows disk file

Drive 1, element 1
Drive path ? \\.\Tape0
Pathname '\\.\Tape0' is not valid. Please try again.
Drive path ? \\.\Tape1
Pathname '\\.\Tape1' is not valid. Please try again.
Drive path ?

Can anybody explain and help me ?

Thanks a lot

First of all - you MUST disable the Removable Storage Manager service !!!
I am pretty sure that it is still running - otherwise the device \\.\Changer0 would not exist.

You most likely need to reboot the computer to make this allocation disappear.

I have disabled the Removable Storage Service and rebooted the computer.

The inquire output now is :

C:\Documents and Settings\atw01129>inquire
Could not start a Removable Storage session (0x00000422).
scsidev@0.0.0:HL-DT-STCD-ROM GCR-8523B1.01|CD-ROM

scsidev@2.15.0:ADAPTEC HostRAID 1.0 |Processor

The jbconfig's output :

C:\Documents and Settings\atw01129>jbconfig
1) Configure an AlphaStor/SmartMedia Jukebox.
2) Configure an Autodetected SCSI Jukebox.
3) Configure an Autodetected NDMP SCSI Jukebox.
4) Configure an SJI Jukebox.
5) Configure an STL Silo.
6) Configure a Microsoft Removable Storage Jukebox.

What kind of Jukebox are you configuring? [1] 2
jbconfig: Jukebox error: scsi command MODE_SENSE failed

In my first issue the Removable Storage Service was running but the Tape library was disabled.

Any suggestion ?

Not easy to say. The SCSI inquire command runs fine but the Mode Select command not. Mode Sense just reads the drive drive parameters and is very similar to Inquire - it just reads more data from the drive's firmware.

This is not easy to check. It could be anything like
- hardware (adapter speed, cabling (lenght) or termination)
- firmware
- driver

It is important that NW does not use specific drivers. This means that you must ensure the drives work fine with Windows before you try to use them with NW.

Thanks !
I understand.

But when I used the 6. of jbconfig (Removable Storage Manager service was running and library was enabled) it found also the drives correctly, I saw in nwadmin at Autochanger, but I couldn't add a volume :((

It seemed that I can control the autochanger directly from Windows, but I can't see the medias in it, only one, but the Windows said correctly the number of slots in the changer.

I don't understand this :(

Does this mean you still have your jukebox and drives configured? (you can see them in nwadmin?) If so, delete these resources before you rerun jbconfig.

The only jbconfig alternative is option 4 - SJI jukebox (standard jukebox interface). In general, it is the same as option 2 except that you need to answer some more questions.

Thanks 605 for the help !

The last solution was that there is on the server another backup software too :((
When I stopped its services I could configure my autochanger with jbconfig successfully.
