Hi all,
Bit of a wierd on for you...
I am running win2kpro with fat file system. I have 4 h/d in my system. Heres my problem.
A couple of days ago i was transfering files from a seagate drive that had the label "SEAGATE" everything was ok as it has always been.. However, later on i went to explore the drive and it had changed label to "local disk" and when i clicked on it it tells me the drive aint formatted, would i like to format now. Also i looked into disk managment and it said there was no file system. I didnt format for fear of loosing all my data on the drive. I transfered the drive to a second machine wich gave me the same results so i put it back into my own pc..
I stuck in 98se floppy and went into FDISK, i located the drive in FDISK and it had the old label "SEAGATE" and all my files were there, i could even back some of them up in DOS no problem. But i dont want to use the DOS option due to the filenames being shortened.
Any ideas upon what i can do please??
Thanks in advance :)

The bios settings in your old computer are probably set to user defined. Record the settings from the old computer then change the settings on the new computer from auto to user and input the settings you recorded.

I have been running on the same mobo config for over 3 months now, nothing has changed regarding the setup. However i have now managed to retrieve all my data from the drive using ontrack Easy Recovery Pro, but id still like to know what could have caused this problem.
