I have two PC's here, one running Windows 95a and the other Windows 95c, that we have a drive mapped to a share on a HPUX server running SAMBA. The details of SAMBA are relatively unimportant besides it projects the file and directory structures down to the workstation level. Windows passes the username from Windows and after the first time you log on (and select the option to save the password) it passes the saved password from the .pwl file to SAMBA to authenticate the drive mapping.

This works great for most of the PC's here, but these two force the users to reenter the password everytime they log on in morning. Does anyone have any clue on why Windows does not pass this password from the .pwl file? I'm kinda stuck here.

Do a search on *.PWL files - see if there are more than what you need (format is USERNAME.PWL). Also - check for extra entries under [Password Lists] section of SYSTEM.INI. Make sure that you leave only needed files and corresponding lines. Even better - delete all PWLs and all the lines from [Password Lists] (keep the section header though) and try again after rebooting.

Regards!

I tried this but it resulted in the same issue. The password line was recreated in the system.ini file and the <username>.pwl was recreated, but at the next logon Windows would not pass the "saved" password to SAMBA.
