On my file server after the weekend my E drive disappears. I need to shut down the server and restart and it appears again.

Any thoughts

Thanks

JP

Bit more detail would help (eg, server spec, o/s, what the E: drive is, any other oddities, what exactly you mean by 'disappears').

Is e: drive a physical drive or a virtual drive.
and have you checked the event viewer.

ie control panel-->administrative tools.

The OS is NT 4.0, Pentium 111 900MHz. The E: drive is a physical drive. After weekend under MY Computer there is no E: drive. Only after power down and restart it appears again in My Computer. It is also lost on the network as a mapped drive

Dude

once again have you checked the event viewer???

Grincho

Yes have checked event viewer and no indication of problem with drive loss.

Run chkdsk?
Get drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility from website & run it?
Have you checked the cabling (firmly connected, not damaged) - is this SCSI or IDE drive?

Might also check to ensure you have the latest BIOS and all Windows Updates.

Checked all cables etc and they are fine, The system does run the latest version of Disk Keeper which runs on Sundays, maybe this could be the problem. I have stopped it for this weekend.

Thanks
