Hi All,

I am currently using PPES 7.1/Unix, PowerPlay Transformer Edition 7.1/Unix and Impromptu Web Report 7.1/Unix for my DW project.

I use Impromptu Query Define file as Transformer Datasource for my cubes, so that when I deploy the cubes into PPES and Upfront, I can drill through from PowerPlay Web to Impromptu Web Report with all the filter on dimensions.

I understand that using Impromptu Query Define as datasource in transformer model will allow PowerPlay Web pass the filter on dimensions to Impromptu Web Report as far as the colum names of dimensions in transformer model and the column names in Impromptu Drill Through report are the same.

I also know in PPES server, there is the place to enable PowerPlay Cube drill through Reportnet.

I just wonder, if we use only PPES server, Transformer Edition and Reportnet products (without Impromptu report product), can we get the same result as using Impromptu report? Same result means able to pass the filter on dimensions to reportnet drill through reports?

If yes, how to do it? Because transformer model can only accept architect model or Impromptu Query Define as its datasource. It does not accept Framework Manager model as its datasource. So how cognos pass the filter on dimensions when we drill through from PowerPlay Web to Reportnet drill through report?

Thank for any advice.

Within framework manager, you have the option to 'externalise' your query subjects as IQD files, and you would simply use these IQD files to build your cube model.

To filter the ReportNet drill through report based on the cube selections you have made simply involves setting up optional filters for each dimension level in the ReportNet report. One of the PPES settings for the cube is 'enable reportnet drill through assistance' which is extrememly helpful when you are setting up your drill through. It even gives you the text to paste into the ReportNet report filters so that the parameters from cube are passed to the report.

The steps involved woould take me forever to write here, and there's no point since cognos has already written a guide which is available at

Thank JGirl, your information is very useful. I have downloaded the document and follow the instructions.

However, when I try to go PPES Cube Properties/Setting Tab, Expand the Drill Through folder, I did not see the check box Cognos ReportNet and Cognos ReportNet Assistance.

When I try to look for [NGC] section in the cer3.ini file in PPES server, I can not find that section also.

The Cognos Series 7 I am using now is version 7.1 MR3. Maybe it does not have the feature Drill through to reportnet? If it is correct, then which is the version has that feature? Cognos Series 7 version 7.3? thanks.

I believe you will need to go Cognos Series 7 version 3 for the drill-thru from the report to cube from within ReportNet.

Not sure on the version, but the drill through from CRN to PP is only a parameter driven URL you create using one or more HTML objects in report studio. Check your powerplay docs.

Here is the URL to use:
or
reportname>&FILTER=<values>&FORMAT=<format>

TARGET and FORMAT Are Required.

From PPES 7.1 you can drill-through to ReportNet report , the same way as you are doing it with IWR.

As you have now followed all the steps described in the link provided by JGirl , try this one ( requires Cognos support account ).

I don't have the NGC section. That was there with mr1 , I think.
