Drill Through from Cross Tab to List with Static/Hardcoded Parameter

We have a crosstab report with four columns (Option 1, Option 2, Option 3, and Option 4). Depending upon which column the user clicks, we want to pass the option name to the child report to alter how the child report behaves.

In a list view, I am able to accomplish this functionality by adding a data item to the query, giving it a static value (ex. 'Option 1') and passing that data value as the parameter to the child report. However, the crosstab report is passing null when I attempt this. I'm assuming its something to do with dimensional vs. relational but am unsure.

Any suggestions?

A Crosstab is build from intersections, so all projected columns are the same, clicking the 3rd column is essentially the same as clicking any of the other 3. The column principle itself does not really exist within the crosstab (as opposed to a list) You would need to use drillthroughs from a simple list ( 1 row) under the crosstab where you influence the drillthrough behavior from the actual list column..

Hey Ties (or anyone else),

Speaking of drill-thrus, if I have 3 out of 4 parameters the same between a Source and Target report and want to deduce the 4th from what was selected in the Source and pass it to the Target, how would I do that?

Basically, I've got a line graph chart by time in Source in which user selects a hotspot. This then is linked via drill-through to a crosstab. Right now, everything is linked using prompts except in the Source chart the user is selecting High Risk %, Medium Risk % or Low Risk % measure and in the crosstab I need to specify just 'High', 'Medium' or 'Low', the 3 members of my Risk Level dimension, which the source chart does not have. How do I pass the first word of the measure selected to a dimension in my Target crosstab???

You would think it should be easy to strip off the word 'High' from the measure 'High Risk %' and pass it (as a caption?) but I cannot get it to work. Basically, I am just trying to do some further analysis based on what the user selected but when you add drill-thrus in the the picture--esp because it's a measure--things get all wonky.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Ties,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I understand your comment regarding CrossTab being about intersections. In this report, we are breaking up cases by region (along the left edge or rows) and their status (along the top edge or "columns). Under status, we show counts by region/status along with various figures like average time, minimum time, etc. I think its a natural fit for a crosstab and intersections. I probably didn't do a good job of explaining my report in my earlier post, my apologies.

More broadly, I find it hard to believe that there is no option (or easy option) to pass a hard-coded text field as a drill through parameter. This applies for any type of report (crosstab, list, bar graph, etc.) The data item value and parameter value work perfectly. Why isn't there a third option where a user can enter in static text (like "Option 1"). I did find some posts on other sites where individuals add a data item with a static value. They then pass this data item as the data item value for the parameter. This solution has not worked for me, the value always comes as null. Here is the post I found.
