Weird problem. My HP laptop has been slowing down lately. Now,out of the blue, I am having several problems.

1. When I try to drag and drop a file, I cannot. I can copy and paste it. However, sometimes I can do this. I can do it at this moment. But today I have mostly not been able to do it.

2. If I try to close a window by clicking on the X, I am sometimes able to close it and sometimes not.

3. The keyboard that I have ATTACHED to the computer will sometimes register a keystroke and sometimes not. I have not checked whether the same problem occurs with the keyboard that is part of the laptop because it just occurred to me to do so. This problem is random--right now, typing via the keyboard is workin fine.

4. I randomly cannot click, for instance, on a little box that wants you to fill in the bubble, for instance when you agree to download something.

5. The computer is SLOW a lot of the time but not always.

I have looked for various possible fixes to no avail. Yes, the drag and drop is checked in the start properties.

I have run AVG and just ran Trend Micro. No problems found.

I am running the Windows File Protection thing right now.

It would seem that this is at least partially related to components attached to computer (keyboard, mouse), but maybe that isn't so.

Please help if you can. This is so frustrating and is slowing my work down tremendously.

Thank you.

The Windows File Protection window has suddenly disappeared.

SFC doesn't give you a report at the end, although if you check in the Event Viewer there may be some record of the running of the tool.

RUNNING THE MICROSOFT SYSTEM FILE CHECKER (SFC /SCANNOW )

Have a look in the Event Viewer . This will show you details of system errors you are having. Event Viewer is found in Computer Management via right clicking on My Computer. Any errors you find right click on them for further information.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Try it first by not checking either box (this will run it in a Read-only mode) to see if it flags any hard drive or file problems. If it does, restart it by ticking both boxes, and rerun it to allow it to attempt to fix any found problems.

Have you tested with another user?
