Well, I've searched the bowels of the internet for a method of using these controllers with Windows 2000. Seems that after Adaptec purchased DPT it orphaned the equipment to the nether reaches. I looked for software upgrades but found nothing that will make the card work for Win2K... what I'm hoping for is someone to explain the error of my ways and clue me in on how to use this nice controller with Win2K.

This may be a stupid question, but what kind of controller is it? For an IDE\ATA\SCSI controller, the drivers should be built into the system itself. Try loading the drivers directly from your Win 2000 CD or copy thereof. If that doesn't work, driverguide.com has some pretty obscure drivers, I use it at my job all the time. Hope this answers your question.

the DPT PM2144W is a SCSI-Wide device from a company that made some great controllers but around the time Win2K came out Adaptec bought the company and orphaned the controller update software team. just trying to find a work around, Win2K see that its a SCSI device but thats all...

If it is any less than a SCSI-3 this may sound stupid, but it is true, an ATA-100 hardrive will be just as fast as that controller card could ever be. If you are that set on it though (if it lessens speed I don't know why you would), maybe the drivers are on the Windows 2000 CD or on the Windows 98 CD. Either that, or write to the company. I would, however, heavily consider the possibility of the first sentence in my response, though.
