Downloading hangs on 99%

Hey dudes its me again,

I got another weird problem, When i download any files from internet, and site, .exe, .zips, .msi. etc... some of the files hang at 99%, one one occasion the download hung for about half an hour, before i cancelled it. It this does not seem to happen on all sites, or all file types, just a random thing that is happening more often...

I have tried downloading the same files from different computers, servers, and buildings. I came home the other day that was able to download this 2meg file easily, but could not at work.. we have Checkpoint NG FP2 installed, and i think that has something to do with it, i have tried logging but that shows nothing as the download is accepted.

I think the problem is an internet explorer problem as the downloads that were hanging on IE are fine with netscape.

I have tried this several times and IE stalls at 99% but netscape is fine, my temp internet cache may be corrupt.... Yardyy

At work we have this problem, mainly when downloading from ftp's (http downloads are ok) and it has something to do with the firewall. Try to disable the firewall and see if that helps, in that case it's something that has to be done to the firewall.

a browser (IE,Netscape,...) is a "tool for all", also
my son can use it. It resolves 99% of operations, but
1% have to be resolved by an expert, using other tools.

Have you noted that when you download a file, this does not
appear in dest. dir until downloaded is finished ?
Where is the data downloaded during operation ?

The browser stores data in an its cache, and only when
downloading is finished, writes file in disk, whit the name
and location you hane choosen.

Well: how to solve ?

3 solutions

1) use ftp (no every possible, if server opens only port 80)
2) increment cache of browser (sometime files are very big)
3) use a specific program that, using http protocol, as
browser, daoe not use cache, but stores data in final
file or in its environment. This tool can also manage
retry, suspend download to continue next day, ecc
Exists freeware produtcts, depending from platforms:
One is GetRight (I know that) you can download trial ver.
From GNU there is wget ecc:
There are also "add-on" to specific browser.

If you are using IE, try unchecking "Use HTTP 1.1" under HTTP 1.1 settings.

This happen quite common. lot of users complained about this.
Possible cause:
1)Browser bug
2)firewall bug
3)proxy server bug

If you want to narrow it down, need to sniffer in each point to narrow it down.

have you try to update the lastest service pack for your IE

Yeh i installed the latest pack, for IE6. The downloading works fine on Netscape, i also tried that disable of HTTP 1.1 setting, but to no avail. I reckon it has something to do with the firewall that we are using.. Yardyy

to disable HTTP 1.1 right click on IE, properties,advanced tab and uncheck HTTP 1.1
