Downloader virus removal?

Norton told me I had "downloader" virus, but I ran a full scan and it didn't show. I checked the log and quarantine and it said that it was there so I folowed thier instructions to delete it. My PC is still running really slow. I also ran "Ewido" anti-spyware but it didn't show up, even in safe mode. I have a Hijackthis log, can anyone help me please?

adaware Se 1.6 and spybot, update both of them.

Set adaware to do a full system scan and deselect, "search for neglible risk
entries". Click next to start the scan. Delete everything adaware finds.

reboot and now run spybot

Spybot: Search and destroy.

Delete what spybot finds marked in red. After updating spybot hit the
immunize button.



Download Superantispyware.

and then run a full system scan quarantine what it finds!

When was the last time you did a clean install? if it's ver two years then that would explain aot as all computers eventualy lsow down with all the junk that builds up, btoken dlls etc, usually the best cure is a clean install of XP!

running AOL and Norton is just asking for trouble as both use a lot of reosurces and start many services, see the hiack this 023 entries!


However, you have a lot of progams running which might not be necessary! See these links below!

All these can definetly be disabled as they are not needed on start up!

If I stop using Norton how will I protect my PC from future virus' (I have teenagers). Are windows XP's antivirus measure any good? I've just always thought that i should have an independant antivirus software installed.
Just thought I would ask, as the softawre licence expires in about two weeks and i'm a bit p***ed off that this downloader virus was able to get past Norton with very little effort.

Norton is not that good and a resource hog meaning it uses up a lot of resources and creates a lot of services which really don't need to be there!
