Does anyone have the download for the FoxPro software? I really want it so I can learn FoxPro.

Sincerely,
Bob Space

Bob,

Visual Foxpro is a proprietary product, developed and owned by Microsoft. Although Microsoft discontinued support for the product some years ago and no longer sells it, it is still a proprietary product. So if you are asking someone to give or sell you a copy of it, that would not be legal.

That said, there are several legitimate products available that claim to be compatible with VFP or that exend it in some way. Two that come to mind are:

- Alaska Software:
- Something called VFP Advanced (there is some doubt about the legality of that name, but not about the software itself):
Please don't take this as a recommendation for either product, as I have no personal experience of either of them.

Mike

Alaska is a competent product for moving on (a little) from Clipper, it's no VFP though.

I do have one app still running in Alaska xBase++, converted from Clipper, it is clunky - but it works!

Well, give or sell a copy is illegal, but the version can be sold VFP still can be sold by their owners, especially the boxed retail version.

Alright, I won't ask again. Thank you otherwise.

I remember that it was (or is ?) part of MSDN subscription.

I think that applied up to VFP 6. MSDN has been replaced with Visual Studio subscriptions. According to this list, VFP is still available with Visual Studio, right up to version 9 (including service packs). So that would be one way of legally obtaining the product. Whether it is worth the cost of subscribing to the whole of Visual Studio just to get VFP is something that Bob will have to decide.

VFP advanced only works with an installed VFP.

Good point. I had forgotten that.

UPDATE: I see there is a free version of Visual Studio, but I can't see where it tells you what products are included. You might have to download it to fnd out.

Mike
