Tek-Tips Memebers,

The Doctype of my site was changed from

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "<html xmlns="
to

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "<html xmlns="<head profile="
and according to pingdom.com (choose "tools")

with the first doctye my site downloaded in 2.7 seconds, but now with the new doctype it takes 5.3 seconds. Is that coincidence and something else was changed that is slowing my site? It validates with the new doctype.

Thanks,

Jillq

You're using the same doctype in both cases. You're using the xml declaration in the second code, which has nothing to do with doctypes, except that it renders it useless in IE6, because that browser requires the doctype to appear as the first thing in an html document.

The only thing that could be making your second load slower is the specified profile. Look here on what profile attribute is and if you need it specified in your code.
