Its us again, regarding the false-alarm from a demo download. A couple of weeks ago, we started getting email that our demo online ( was causing a virus warning from various anti-virus programs. The demo was a self-extracting zip file with the extension .exe
We changed the demo to a zip file since it seemed like the exe file extension was triggering the false-alarm, however we are still getting the same emails. The demo contains executable files that are causing the same warnings from Norton and McAfee Anti-virus programs.
The first exe that causes the warning is the setup.exe file. This is generated by InstallShield for Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 and the second is caused by one of our demo applications called MapSetup-d.exe. This was generated by Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. The computer used, has a new hard disk, with a fresh install of Win 2000, and not much else. The demo files have been checked by our ISP, System Administrator, and a well-educated (computer) friend. Our ISP had no problems but our friend got the warning with IE 6 but not with IE 5 or thru AOL 7.
We contacted Microsoft about this, since it is their software involved. They are ready to start a tech support account, but so far have been unable to shed any light.
If any one has any ideas about the causes and remedy, we would be most appreciative.
