Hey guys,
I'm brand new here and in need of some dire help. I took the evening to upgrade my IP500v2 Control Unit from V6 to V7. I misread the warning during upgrade and assumed since I had a license already that I'd be ok. I've got almost 60 employees coming in in the morning and the entire phone system is down due to licensing.

I need to do one of two things:

1. A fast, instant way to obtain a license for v7. Also, how does one install this license?

2. Downgrade back to v6 until I can get everything sorted out. How does one go about downgrading back?

Thanks in advance. I really appreciate it.

For downgrading you need a Manager rel 6, a backupconfig with rel 6.
Manager 6 can be downloaded on support.avaya.com.
A backup config can be found on the PC used to maintain the system.
There are .BAK files in the manager directory ( by default C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager ) named something like this : 00E0070587D4-2011-03-18-V1.BAK.
00E0070587D4 = system name
2011-03-18 = date of file creation
V1 = number of the file created on that day
Jist rename the file from .BAK to .cfg

Start the Manager 6.x and perform a upgrade as you have done with 7.0. After upgrading ( actually downgrading ) open the above config and send it to the IP Office.
Done!
Instead of downloading the Manager 6.x you can download only the 6.x bin files and extract them to a new directory in the manager path, then change the working directory in Manager to the new folder and do a upgrade.

Great description. I appreciate it a TON.

In the long process of downgrading now. Am I safe to assume that the license I had originally will automatically be picked back up?

In the future, where do I specify my new license for v7?

as long as you didn't delete it, it'll still be there.

when you buy it you'll get a string, you just need to enter it in manager under licenses and check it's valid, then upgrade. then delete the old one.

To be fair, i'd get whoever sells you the license to do everything, that way you don't have the headache.

Well the downgrade didn't work. Of note - The only license I ever had under licenses was Voicemail Pro. I've never had any other licenses installed before which is strange that it worked until the upgrade.

Upgrading back up to v7 and waiting for an upgrade license to come in. Fingers crossed I can get a license working once purchased.

Your system is probably installed on 6.0 or 6.1 and the 90 days grace period expired.
That is why you do nto have a software license, it is build in.
This is all documented by the way.

Post a screen shot of the upgrade window as it appears on opening (before you attemt to upgrade/downgrade anything) :)

I understand the 90 day grace period, but we've been running V6 for about 9 months without any issue until I did the upgrade.

I'll post a screen as soon as I'm back at that desk.

the grace period isn't like a trial, it means that if you upgrade within 90 days, then you just don't need the license, ever, until you upgrade again, but you were running a V2 on 6.0 so it would just work without a license anyway.

When it is installed you had 90 days where you could have upgraded to any higher version.
After those 90 days this is disabled and a license is required if you want to upgrade to any minor or major release.
Maintenance releases are always for free.

Ah that makes complete sense. So now that I've back down to v.6.1, I need that license. Downgrading again to v.6.0 wouldn't help either I assume. I'm waiting for my telecom company to call me back with a v.7 license as we speak.

When you go to File -> Advanced -> upgrade what number does it show for required license and what does it show for licensed?

Well before I procured licenses, it read Licensed, it read licensed 2 required 2. Now it reads licensed 4 Required 2. So hopefully I am safe in assuming that I can do the update with the new licenses.

Thanks everybody for your help.

BTW, downgrading IP office to version 6 worked. 6.1 didn't do the trick.

Ya'll saved my job :)

2 is 6.0 and 4 is 7.0
6.1 needs a 3
