Downgrading from R9 to R8.1 or lower? You might get locked out. 3

Many have locked themselves out when downgrading form R9, left with the only option to grab a serial cable and go on-site to reset the security settings.

I did some lab work on the matter and found a way to prevent this form happening.

Before starting the downgrade,
Add User: "DTEDefault" (similar to the "NoUser")
Source Number: AT<SECURITYRESETALL>

Then open security settings and add:
User: "Downgrade"
Pwd: Dgrade7
Make it member of everything

When downgrading, tick all boxes in the main window (IPO + modules)
Un-tick "Backup system files", "Upload System files" and "Reset IP Phones".

Run the downgrade (upgrade) from Manager R7.0 or R8.x.
If you get error message "Some failed...", just continue, it will be fine.

When rebooted, login and transfer the SD card files from Manager.

Gunnar, did you try it without the DTEDefault user?
I don't think it does anything.
I think adding a user in the security settings is enough.

Peter, after punishing both myself and my IPO's with 6 hours worth of up- and downgrades, these settings were the breakthrough

I was hoping that DTEDefault user sending AT SECURITYRESETALL alone would do the job, nothing good came out of that.
Running just the custom security user works too, but to my surprise the Administrator account was granted Security privileges when upgrading back to R9.0! (Sooner or later someone will upgrade that IPO without knowing about this "feature".)

Defaulting the Security settings after the downgrade would probably fix it too, but I felt the urge to get home at that point
I might do some further testing later today, but for now adding that DTE user only takes 30 sec.

All in all, this shouldn't have been an issue in the first place, if the developers had done their job....

We have seem this a few times downgrading the SD Card from 9 to 8.1, and the IPO refuses to communicate properly to Manager.

My fix has been to:

upgrade back to 9

downgrade the IP using Manager and upload the system files and not to format the SD Card and recreate it.

But I will use your settings in the future, thanks for the heads up dude.

HSM, i have had this problem when downgrading with Manager and not recreating the SD card.
It is just a bug in the security settings getting corrupt.

Can't really blame him if a quote was made for R8.1
(And there is the price difference to consider..Salesguy voluntarily call the customer to tell about the price jump? Highly unlikely )
