Downgrading 5420 to R4 firmware

IP Office 406 V2, running 3.1(65)

I was sent out as a subcontractor to add 3 new 5420 sets today, which are R5 out of the box. They are stuck at "Please Wait" on the screen.

5420_R4.bin is in the working directory. TFTP address is that if the VM Pro PC. Followed Tech Bulletin 36 to edit turn_on.bat and turn_off.bat, ran turn_on and rebooted via File | Advanced | Reboot and watched the TFTP log.

The existing 5410's all updated their firmware, but the 5420's didn't do anything.

Tried unplugging and replugging the phones, power cycling the expansion module, still stuck.

What else to look at?

Try them on the main unit if possible, sometimes expansion modules will not downgrade certain handsets for some unknown reason, also if one port has upgraded/downgraded a handset it will not upgrade another plugged in that port until rebooted, I have seen similiar before :)

Put it on one of the 8 ports on the front of the 406.
Seen it happen that the upgrade does not work on the modules but does on the ipo itself.
Often the ports of modules only allow one phone to upgrade per port.

Only after a reboot of the module it allowd one upgrade per port again.

Just to followup, they finally authorized a return trip to the site. The 5420's successfully downgraded when connected to the base unit, and one port handled them all without a reboot.

Thanks for the insights, they were talking about either upgrading the 406 or changing out to a 500, not a road that I wanted to go down for a subcontract customer.
