Had a HP PC w XP under warranty which failed and HP couldn't fix. So they sent me a new HP Pavilion dv6000 PC with AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile Processor, however they refused to send me the replacement with XP so it came w Vista. It failed miserably when put on an XP Home Network. (Network Copy impossibly slow, connections constantly dropping out for long periods, network printers going haywire, etc)

I installed a generic OEM Windows XP. After downloading the Broadcom driver and HP assistant I got it working OK. However, some things seem to be not functioning as they should. Ex, save files take a while; the system seems to be slower than under Vista.

In the Device Manager Table there are 9 entries with Yellow ?? listed below:

Base System Device
Base System Device
Base System Device
Coprocessor
Other PCI Bridge Device
PCI Device
SM Bus Controller
Unknown Device
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

I am guessing that some of these are affecting performance. I tried to upgrade Drivers for these; however, the system does not find anything after searching.

Can anyone tell me how to proceed from here? HP won't talk to me since I put XP on a system that came w Vista; even though they are the cause of this mess for me!!

Thank you, Jim..

1. Go to hp.com
2. Go to ">> Software and Driver Downloads"
3. Enter your product info
4. Select Windows XP
5. Download the drivers
6. Install the drivers

When I tried that, it brought up several models under the model # gave, with full driver lists for each one. The first one I pulled up was:

In addition, you can go to the individual manufacturer web pages and download driver packages. You will need very details specs on your machine to do this. For instance, if your PC has an NVidia video card, you could go to nvidia.com to get the drivers.

As far as the slowness goes, did you install XP over Vista, or did you format the drive and re-install. If it is a clean install from a valid source, it may be driver issues, however if Vista is still there, in full or part, you may want to do a "clean" install before you proceed.
