I have a LAB 8700 server which I want to downgrade from CM2 to CM1 and then perform an upgrade from CM1 to CM3 so I can see if any issue arises from the upgrade. However, I am unable to downgrade. I tried putting the CD in the drive and boot from start up and it does not recognise the CD. Anyone know how to do this ? I have tried 3 different 1.3 cds and all failed. Tried with the Wizard and failed. Tried from maintenance menu to install new software and failed. Any ideas ?

The only way to do it is to boot from the CD....
It's not a software reason for it not being able to boot from it.
Do both 8700's fail to boot to CD?

i only have one spare 8700 server. According to the docs, the new s8700 servers normally come loaded with software. I made the mistake of loading a cm2 cd as the three cm 1.3 cds did not work. Now I can't seem to go down one level. I have tried doing it from the maintenance menu and from the wizard and both are failing. CD rom is fine as I managed to load the CM2 software. Trying to look for a cm1.2 and cm1.3 cd and see if this has a bootable option

Hello,

I do not think that you can downgrade from ACM 2 to ACM 1 since the software installation process is entirely different.

There are some issues when upgrading from ACM 1 to ACM 3 (corruption e.t.c) Look for PSN documents in Avaya support site and s/w - f/w compatibility matrix document for ACM 3. These issues are described in there..

You should be able to downgrade, the 1.3 CD should re-master the HDD.

Do you know how to re-master the drive ?

When you boot to a CD it bypasses what is on the HDD entirely.
The installer on the CD will do what it needs to do automatically.

The fact that it does not recognize the CD has nothing to do with the load on the HDD. It could be windows on that HDD.
The CD boots before the HDD if there is a disk in the drive.
Either their is something wrong with the CD or the Drive or the boot process (order) on the server.

it works when i load the CM2 cd but i tried 3 different Cds and none of them work.

I am currently tyring to source a CM 1.1 cd and see if I can load it form this and then upgrade to cm1.3

Hi mrjedi , have you done the upgrade from the web interface from cm 1.3 to cm 2 ?

As long as i know, the old S8700 that came with the CM 1.3 preinstalled have a bug where in the bios, the boot sequence is HDD - CDROM.

I think that the only thing you should try, even if a bit difficult , is to connect to the serial port of the S8700 and try to access the bios while is booting up and then modify the boot sequence.

I know this should result not so easy , and really i don't have under my hands the settings for the hyperterminal, but you should give a try.

Hope this helps

will try that tomorrow.

thanks for the advice

have you tried to issue the remaster command from the shell? pop the cd in, and tell it to remaster.

or hook up a monitor/keyboard and play with the bios.

CM 1.3 does not includ linux OS. So I think you could not boot from CD.

that could be the case - and an explanation as to why they used to ship pre-loaded in the old days. they only started shipping blank with CM2. if that's the case, you may be out of luck, mrjedi...

of course, you could just uninstall the 200 or so rpms and do it that way! ;)

we tried to connect to the bios and changed the settings to boot from cd but it failed. I have given up this project. Bascially, if you upgrade to CM3 and want to roll back, that is not an option anymore.
