Down Drives

In the Problems report (Backup Management/Reports/Problems) I discovered several entries like the following:

backupservera hostname media id 501720 is in a DOWN drive, misplaced, write protected or unmountable; attempting retry with a different media id

When I checked the drive status in Veritas this morning, all of the drives were listed as UP. Is there any way for me to see which drives were down, when they were down, and who brought them back up?

what I use to check media servers is:
bperror -problems -L -hoursago 24 -server mediaserver -s all

This will list a lot of information in terms of the reasong for the drive being downed. Comman reasons, include a cleaning that is needed - If configured, the cleaning will be run and then the job will retry.

Thanks, PGPhantom. After thinking about it and reviewing the error message I decided to take a look at the volume database. I checked to see if the volumes were removed from the library yesterday and the volume database showed them as still being there because the operator forgot to update the volume configuration!!

You could also run a script (Unix only) that is started at bootup and checks at an interval to see if any drives are "Down". If they are, it will attemt to bring them up, issue a warning message to anyone_who_cares and then check again in 5 minutes. If after "N" attempts, the drive still reports being down, then appropriate action can be taken.
