I have computer that has windows 98 on it. The other day the user explained that they couldn't click on anything from the desktop. Double clicking has gone out no matter where you are on the computer. I have used a different mouse and no luck. If you single click it it highlights, but does nothing to open if double clicked. I can right click and go to open and open things. Does anyone know what has caused this and how it can be converted back. I ran virus scan with no luck on finding any viruses.

I reinstalled the mouse drivers and nothing helped. I then went into safe mode via F8 at startup and changed the mouse click speed from slow to faster or longer to faster. I believe that this can be done in regular win mode from control panel, mouse, buttons tab. All it was was the mouse button click speed to slow.

Hmmm....
I can understand the problem being caused by the mouse speed being set too fast, but not by being set too slow.

Anyway, glad to hear that you fixed things, and thanks for posting back with the solution.
