dotnetfx.exe install locks up PC

Hello,
Everytime I try to install dotnetfx.exe for dot net ver. 2 on this one PC it locks up the PC. You have to hold the power button down to reboot. Has anyone else had this issue. This is a Wondows 2000 PC. Any help would be apprecited.

dotnetfx3 is not compatible with windows 2000, only XP or above.
