Is there any way in 98 SE to increase the number of lines in a DOS Prompt so you use the scrollbar to see the lines that scroll off the top?

Going to the Screen tab of the properties, I can only set the Initial Size to 50 lines. I'm trying to run a program and I'm getting a lot more lines than that scrolling by that I can't go back to look at

Thanks.

Don't know of any way to do that I'm afraid... Reverse scrolling in DOS is often a function of the particular programme concerned. Can you use the DOS piping command with MORE ? Or maybe re-direct screen output to a file ?

I've tried piping, more'ing and redirecting, but I was not successfull. I'm not sure of the syntax. Can you give an example of each?

Also, do you know if there's an argument we can give to command.com line in the shortcut that may increase the line size?

Thanks.

Try this:-

C:\>FRED.EXE |more

The pipe symbol after FRED.EXE can be found to the left of the "Z" key on most keyboards.

To redirect:-

C:\>FRED.EXE >fred.txt

I can't guarantee these'll work with what you want, but these are the usual formats.

Good luck!

Thanks. I already tried those without success. Thanks anyway.

That doesn't do it either, but thanks.

Thanks, but I wouldn't know what to do with it. edit.com is an editor, right? But, I need to run a program (java. exe to be specific.)

Do you run this "java.exe" in DOS mode or in Windows?

If you are using DOS, the redirectors should work. Moreover, the program may have a help file such as:

x:\>java.exe /?

I'm not aware of any possibility of capturing in Windows.

It's better to have two heads to solve a problem from different angles than to have tunnel vision to a dead end.

Yes, I'm running it in DOS mode but it doesn't work and the help for the app doesn't either. Thanks though.

Try typing mode con lines=xx where xx is the number of lines displayed. I don't know the max but it will show at least 100.

Should I type that upon entry into the dos window or as an argument to the program? Neither seemed to work.

Thanks, but all I can set it to are the values that are displyed in the properties drop down box (i.e., 25, 43, and 50.) Bummer. I can't believe we can set this the way we can in NT.

I've upgraded to Win 2000 where I can set the columns and lines in the Dos window.

BTW, being able to do this is not the reason I upgraded to Win 2000.

Thanks.
