I have a multiuser clipper app which runs fine on 100's of Novell servers with Windows 95/98 Clients, however the same App running on an NT 4.0 server with Windows 95/98 Clients, very occasionaly reports DOS Error 5 Corruption detected. the file is not corrupted and the user can quit out of the program, go back into the app and all is fine. This happens on 3 sites all with NT4.0 running NTFS. I have tried running it on a FAT32 partition but get the same error.

There are several settings that need to be checked for Clipper apps to run on NT4. E-mail me and I'll send some notes.

hi dear
dos error 5 means "access denied" .then must checked sharing of your folder and user access to it.

Especially if you are using NTFS!! Please let me know if this helped you :)

DOS Error 5 is very often the NT Op Locking problem
you can use a merge file on the server and workstations
which will generally solve the problem.

There is an example with full explanation in the 'tech tips for EasyDoc' section of the 'Free S/W & Downloads' page

Tekno,

Well... it's taken me nearly twenty years to wean myself from Clipper - and for somethings you just can't beat it even now!

That said, Fox has been my living for the most part for a while now - and as a GUI app generator I have found no better. I have tried xBase, but it is not 100% compatible and doesn't quite do what it says on the box... I have some apps in Clipper that would require substantial rewriting - so I'll move them to Fox blah blah blah time to start work!

Catch you later.
Regards

Griff
