We have a door phone outside our office door with a short code programmed with ?D so that whenever it goes off hook, it rings a hunt group, someone answers and unlocks the door.

I'm trying to program a short code with authorization so that a short list of people can press a button, enter a code, and a relay pulse can be sent to the door to unlock. I have the short code programmed, but anytime the phone goes off hook, of course the ?D dials the hunt group. Is there any way around this, or any way to exclude any of the buttons from the ?D

Usually a door phone should dial the target number itself without the need to configure the ?D code. Then it should be able to dial different numbers depending on the button that is pushed.

Buy a 2N doorphone, there are versions with a numeric keypad and you can program upto 1000 user access code's, and of course one or more buttons for calling a group.
Additional you can buy a proximity reader with badges to open the door.

The door phone has an extension itself. You should be able to dial the extension of the door phone and have it auto-answer. You can then press the code to open the door. I have this working with a Bogen door phone. I think I may have had to program something in the door phone itself to allow it to auto-answer when called. You may need to reference the manual for the door phone to see if it is possible to have it answer an incoming call.

i have a keypad/proximity reader and door access controller that handles this, i am not sure you would want to do this through telephone system.

You can buy a viking door access controller es-1 for $125, and a dual keypad/proximity for $50-100

People often try and bundle their door entry systems in to the telephone system and it's nearly always better being standalone, especially when you are talking override and/or video feeds etc, not to mention power fail scenarios :)

With this door phone, it's a simple extension on the system. I want the visitor to simply be able to lift the handset, and have it automatically dial the coverage group without instructing the visitor to dial any number or push any button. It's very simple. I'm just looking for another way to achieve this without any 3rd party products. I'd like to be able to use the other buttons on the phone if possible. With the ?D - any off hook actions dials the coverage group.

Can't work, ?D kicks in instantly, anything dialled afterwards is simply passed as in call audio :)

If you really need them to be able to dial you will have to remove ?D as amriddle has stated. You could then put a sign by the phone stating to gain entry dial xxx (the extension of the group). Obviously, outbound restrict the phone as well.

?D to a VM Pro module that plays dial tone as the Entry Prompt, selections that go to the different destinations, and timeout to the coverage group. Instruction plate says lift and dial extension or wait for operator.

Not so good when VM ports are busy though, stay outside sucker, nobody knows you're there :)

setup a DID to a VMpro module that un-locks the door, they don't need to do from the door phone, they could call from their cell. if it only for a few user. you could also password protect it so if others called the number they couldn't get thru. I did this for 1 site that the owner wanted to be able to get in if he forgot his keys.
