I have a client with an IP Office 500 that wants to add a door phone and door strike. I purchased the Avaya LUUDS kit with the door phone and entry controller. They then decided that they wanted a phone in the hallway with buttons for each interior office instead of the standard door phone so visitors can call each office individually for entry. So I purchased a 1608 digital phone to put out in the hall. My understanding from the instructions that came with the LUUDS is that a call must be initiated from the analog door phone connected through the controller for the door strike to be activated. So I'm at a bit of a loss right now. I have never done a door strike before so any advice on how to get this best set up would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the IPO has 2 contact closures that you could use to interface to the door strike, but I would go with an actual door entry system such as Trigon, which would be designed to be mounted outside and still be secure

With this doorphone you can have the guest dial any number on the doorphone to be connected with, there are other brands which can do this but this is the only one we sell. It has a lot more capabilities like access with a proximity reader, video etc.

I'm not too worried about security, the phone will be in the hallway of a secure office building. If I use the plug on the back of the ipo, do I just connect the door strike and power supply to it. or do I need to add additional equipment?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

the contact is only good for very little power, you have a relay in the IPO that is good enough to power a real relay not a doorstrike, it will work a few times then burn out and it is not replaceable

Thanks for the info Joe. Should I add an additional relay? If so, where would it go in the wiring sequence?

Consider the outputs from the IP Office as transistors switching to ground, there are three contacts on the plug with two inputs and one common ground so the plus wire goes to the relay coil and the other end of the relay coil goes to one of the two switching contacts, the common part of the IP Office contact is connected to the minus lead.
If you activate the contact then the relay will be activated.

If you have any spare analogue channels then you could try the Siemens BM3, works well and you can ring any three digit extension

Can I use the Avaya entry controller as the relay?

if you can call it and it picks up you should be able to press buttons to activate its relays which in return open the door
