I have a WIN98SE that I use as my second (and backup) computer. When I boot it, it loads the default browser and the dial-up connection window. This was OK when this was my primary PC, but now it's not even connected to the internet.

How do I disable these items on startup? They don't appear on the list of programs at startup.

This could be in your IE settings. Go to your internet properties and check the Connections tab. Make sure "Never Dial a Connection" is ticked. Also make sure you have no programs set to do automatic updates.

Yeah, What he said, but go to Start/Run and type msconfig and click the Startup Tab. Uncheck any entries that you don't want to open on Startup because one of these is trying to connect to the net.Cheers..dave

Thanks to both of you.

Actually I looked at msconfig start options before I sent the post, and I didn't notice where it said to load the internet connection. After your reply, I checked msconfig startup again, and there it was! I unchecked it and it's OK now.
