I Install Seagate 4mm tape backup drive but I don't know which device file to use for backing up to the drive.
ex. tar --compare --verbose -F /dev/?????
I'm on Linux using version 6.2 redhat.

Hi,

That would probably be :

/dev/st0 (first scsi tape)

or

/dev/nst0 (first scsi tape w/o auto rewind)

If you do 'ls -l /dev/tape' you may find that is linked to one the above too.

Regards

Thanks ifincham it's /dev/st0 I'm running a tar backup to the drive right now.

Thank you & happy holidays
