we are in a network environment. when we enter the username and password, below that there is an option asking what domain or this computer.
i am not able to get that option.
even i have tried clicking the OPTION button which is along with OK and CANCEL buttons. but it doesnt show up.
the only problem i face is it doesnt get to share the network resources.
thanks

Karsh,

Are you sure the machine has been joined to the domain? If there is a question you can logon locally and check the System Properties, Identification tab...

Just a thought...[ponytails2]

Has the machine been registered with the domain in question.

In win2k, go to Network and Dialup connections, and on the advanced menu select network identification. Click properties, tick the domain box and type the domain you wish to register with in the box. You may need to enter valid admin details for the domain server (been a while since I've done this....)

thanks joc
it worked. but i m still surprised, how come it removed only him from the domain.
nyways, its working. :)

hi
i have still problem mapping a network drive.
i can connect to the server address and then map it, i cannot still connect as in the domain,as everybody is doing.
i checked all settings for the other computers which are working.
this is the only one, whichdoesnt want to connect.
nothing has been changed.
sometimes, it says a duplicate name exists on the server, which when i checked is not there.
so tell me wht i msuppose to do.
thanks

Are you sure you are logged in as someone who has permissions to that network folder?

i m logging as an administrator

Have you browsed "Network Places" to see if you can browse the network? Can you see a bunch of computers out there via "Entire Network"? What method are you using to Map to the network drive? What error are you getting when you cannot connect to the network drive? Need exact error messages. Also recheck your network settings and make sure you have the correct Protocols. Try pinging to the router, try pinging other workstations. See if you can ping this workstation from another computer. All these will verify if you are connecting properly

hi
i can ping all the machines and also i get response from this machine.
the problem i m seeing is ,when i check the computers near me, it doesnt show anything. i m not able to see anything. but i could find the server computer by putting its IP address and then i mapped on tht.
but daily this computer has some problem, may be cannot see the network printers or something else, as it doesnt recognize wht domain it is in.
whenever i try to put the domain name it says the domain name doest exists or was unable to connect.
thanks

I assume your environment is all Windows2000? (I.E Windows2000 Server + Windows2000 PRo)? If so, make sure you have the Windows2000 workstation pointing to the Primary DNS Server (1st server for domain). Go into your TCP/IP properties and DNS settings and make sure your DNS IP address is correct. Also make sure you have the DNS suffix entered from DNS properties (Advanced tab).

still not working;...... (-:

" duplicate name exists "
Windows network some times leaves a ghost of your machine so you can't join...try changing the computer name
