I have a multidomian network, with several sites linked by a VPN. each site has it's own domain name, with a PDC and a BDC.

There are shared resources on all of the sites, with one head office site having the most shares and all of the trusts between domains.

The problem is this...
A user name is added to a share in the security permissions on a directory on the head office PDC. When adding the name the user manager works fine and the user is added, and permissions all seem ok. Close the boxes down, but the user still can't get access. When I go back to check, the user details are showing "DOMXXX/Account Unknown "

All other domain connections are displayed just fine.

I have re-set the trust relationship between the domains and the domain controllers, and ddouble checked WINS and DNS, all look OK

I need inspiration

What happens if you try to share for a user on the local domain and not the remote one?

If you cant it might be because you are using a cluster environment?

If you can, then try adding an admin account to see if its related to account policies and rights.

thanks for the ideas, but alas still no joy. Other domain connections are fine, and we're not running clusters. I added a domain admin account, and same thing.
Has made me think tho, so will be trying a local group with global entries, and see what happens....

any other ideas are greatly appreciated

You could try creating a domain local group on and giving that group access to the share.
Then create a global group and add the users from the other domain to this group, then add the global group to the domain local group.
