Domain security policy

We are currently having problems with our domain security policy. It seems all the settings some how got messed up. I would like to know, if we have a good back up from 3 weeks ago can we over write the file or import the policy to get the settings we once had?

I don't think that would work unless you were doing a Directory Services restore as the GPO is part of AD... Hopefully maybe someone can prove me wrong...

Restore just the file system information for the group policy and not the AD Container. Then open, modify and close your policy. This will sync the DS and FS versions of the GP and you'll be good to go (as long as everything else was working before
