Whenever a domain user makes a change to their domain password, SBS 03 changes the password on their Outlook 2003 email account too. This would be fine if I was using exchange, but I use a seperate mail server with seperate passwords. When the domain password is changed the client can no longer receive email.

Any ideas?

One option would be to go to Users and check "User cannot change password" an each user's profile...a bit clumsy but it will work. It is also a violation of Password Policies so you might need to re-run the CEICW to disable them. This is the way I run my network, I assign complex passwords and the user cannot change them, but it's a small office.

It is the standard password expiration and the user gets the "your password will expire in __ days" message. When they change the password. Because windows assumes the use of Exchange it just changes the Oulook account password. Since we don't use Excahnage so everytime the password change occurs we have to manually re-enter the proper email password.

I know there has to be a way around this, but have not been able to locate a fix yet.

Do you have your own internal email server or are you using POP email from your ISP?

Scott

We have our own Email server located off site at a co-location facility.

No that's the funny part of this. It is a standard POP3 email account in Outlook 2003 and when the client changes domain password due to expiration or whathaveyou, the password on the Outlook POP3 email account resides on the client's computer assumes the new password.

That's ridiculous. I have several POP3 accounts, in Outlook XP and 2003 that do not line up with the logon password. On a client machine, open Outlook, Tools>Email accounts>View or change existing accounts make sure POP3 is selected and "remember password" is checked. Test the settings. I am not a guru, but the only way I could see this happening is if you are using the POP3 connector within SBS (bad idea, I have heard stories...)

You should be able to set up any POP3 account with any password at any time regardless of the Domain login.

It does not make sense but it happens are the clints computers each time their domain password expires and they create a new one. Right after, when they pop into our mail server it fails because the password for the account was overridden by the domain logon password.

I can't be the only one expierencing this can I???
