Hi,

I'm a new user of windows 2003 server. I'm installing it on a new server of my company.
I already know the differences between domain and workgroup. My question is if I use a domain, the notebooks will belong to that domain. And when the users take the notebook home, they can use it without being in the domain.

Thanks.

Yes, they can, but the policies you set for them on the domain will still apply off the domain, i.e if they can't install programs (becuase you have set a policy saying they can't) then they won't be able to at home either. THEY MUST HAVE LOGGED INTO THE DOMAIN ATLEST ONCE to login at home.

You may have occausional problems, where people can't get into there email it asks for the password. This is beacuse the users password expired while they were away from the network and the laptop let them in using the cached password. just log out and change the password. this only happens to my users who go abroad for over a month.

They won't be able to see any network drives one disconnected, what i do is i map my docements to my P:\site\users personal area. and set to syncronise offline. When users are home they can make changes when the come back to the network it syncronises. You cannot do this with shared files. You can also set exchange email to do the same.

Oh remember that when users are off your network they aren't protected by your firewall, my users have perviuosly diabled the windows XP firewall, for some unknow reason, and then came back to my network with viruses, you may wish to disble them from making such changes in group golicies for laptops
