We recently added 2 new servers on our LAN. The first is a new Global Catalog Server and the second is a new Terminal Server server.

We began receiving <Out of licence> messages in Event Viewer on the new Global Catalog server, we proceeded to access the Licensing app under Admin Tools, and increase/purchase 100 new licenses. But adding new licenses still displays 0 under Purchased Licenses.

We have a DomainLicense Server on the LAN and the registry key on the new GC points to the Licensing Server (Local Machine>software>microsoft>MSlicensing>.

I'm confused on why were having these licensing errors, the new servers are pointing to the DomainLicensing server...??

is there a way i can verify that licensing info is being properly replicated?

Make sure you check the per seat or per server setup on the new servers.....

The license logging service is bug-ridden and honestly, unncessary. I highly recommend you disable it on all your machines.

The only thing that matters when it comes to licensing is your black and white physical documentation. If you were to be audited, the auditor is not going to take one look at the license manager.

The license logging service is disabled in Server 2003 for these reasons.

But by disabling the service, will it not lock down your servers after some time?

No. Disabling the service will actually allow unlimited connections to the servers.

I have disabled the license logging service on our 2000 server, and I am unable to add a computer to the domain. Am I missing something?

What is the error you get when you try to add the computer?

There are many reasons why a computer can't be joined: name resolution and permissions are two big causes.
