Domain Functional Level Question

Here is my situation. I had an old NT 4.0 PDC, I added a new 2003 DC and established a trust with the old DC making the 2003 the new PDC. The 2003 PDC is running in 2000 mixed mode.

The old NT 4.0 DC is since toast, trashed no longer around. I now only have one DC in my network now and its the 2003 box. I have also deleted the trust relationship with the old DC since its gone. However, I do have a mix of several other 2000 and 2003 servers running in the network. Note none of these are DC's or Backup DC's.

Based on my understanding I should now be able to raise the Domain Functional Level to either 2000 native or 2003. I dont forsee any reason to add a 2000 DC into my network in the future. If any new DC's will be added they will be 2003.

By raising the functional level of the Domain will there be any negative impact on the 2000 servers or will everything be all good.

Given the information above would I be better off rasing the Functional level to 2000 native or 2003?

Thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

So long as you have no need to add any legacy DCs then you can go all the way to 2003 native mode. There will be no impact on the domain member servers as they are only AD consumers just like XP Pro.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark,

This is sort of what I was thinking, I really just needed a second opinion.

Thank you for the information.
