domain controller security policy

Hi Im having a problem with my Domain Controller Security Policy and also my Domain security policy. When I try to launch either of these links from admin tools I get a message "error opening group policy object, the system could not locate the path specified". So my questions is, where are these tools pointing...and how can I generate new default DC and domain policies.

where are you trying to run this from, a workstation with the admin tools installed?

Im trying to run this right from the only Domain controller in the domain...

just going through start-prog-admin tools on the DC.

What you doing was a local thing. Please into the AD and you will find it there.

No, on the domain controller you still have DC security policy and domain security policy under admin tools. There is another snap in local security policy, but thats now what im going to.

check your DNS settings. Those tools are trying to pull info from the same DC they're on, assuming that's the only DC.
