An error message appeared on an nt4.o client machine last week during logon (Win2k server) saying "A domain controller for your domain could not be contacted. You've been logged on using cached account information"...when i went to check the account on the server i found that Active directory wasn't working...i restarted the server and got active directory back, but the client machine is still giving the same error message when you try to log on?!

Chris,

Check connectivity from workstation first.
Will use cached profile if working offline.
Cables etc - can Pc see other machines ?

If so can workstation ping DC by IP address, by name.

Run ipconfig /all check DNS settings , default gateway, IP information.

Do all these look ok ?

Should give some clues !
