Doing a search for files requires Office CD for each user logged in.

Windows 2K Pro - SP2 - Office 2K. When I do a search for files logged in as anyone other than the person that the Office install was done as, I get an Office Installer that asks for the Office CD. If I supply it, it will read Data1.cab and continue search. If I login as a different user, it does it again.

May be a Win2k profile issue. Not sure

You have to supply the CD every first time the user will use it , then It will not ask you again ...

Know Me No Pain , No Me Know Pain !!!

First of all why does a search for files done from the start button involve Office and second of all, is there any way of stopping it from asking for the CD when a new user logs in?

Thanks,

For Office 2000, put in the cd and do a custom install. Click on folder and install EVERYTHING local. Turn off sections that you don't want.

The problem with a "normal"/typical installation is that it has numerous items flagged "install on first use". Forcing the local install allows Office / W2k to install without asking for the CD again.

Thanks!

I guess my confusion was why Office was getting involved with a simple file search in the first place.
