I have Win2000 Pro with 128 RAM. When I shutdown my system, after terminating all the service and it just show a blank screen (left cursor blinking) and doesn't show shutdown message "Now its safe to turn off your computer". And I have to manually turn it off.

Hi

Has your computer done it before (ie it is APM/ACPI compliant?)

John

It is ACPI compliant. I remember When I used to shutdown my system, it turns off monitor and CPU.

Hi

I know my shutdown stopped working properly after I ran WindowsUpdate on 98SE, and only worked intermittently. I now have learned my lesson and don't use it. I only use service packs.
Have you recently run WindowsUpdate on your system? I wonder if there is one for Windows 2000 that stops it working properly?

Hi! John

Yeah... I had tried to update Windows 2000 and I guess problem started after that. Do u know any way to solve this problem? Thanxs in advance.

Hi Sirji

I ran Windows 98SE for two years with no problems on my machine - until I ran Windowsupdate. Over time it started bluescreening about twice a week. I wiped and reinstalled the machine with 2000 (a far better OS, IMHO), put SP3 and IE6 SP1 on and haven't run WindowsUpdate since.

I don't know how easy it is to uninstall updates - try control panel add/remove and see if anything appears.
