for failover capabilities or can it be configured with DMP alone?

Thanks in advance

What OS?
If it is Tru64 Unix the secure path is built in to the OS. If it is Windows or HP-UX or Linux etc. you have to have Secure Path to have dual paths -

In Veritas Volume Manager, the DMP feature can replace SecurePath. The exact support matrix is somewhere at support.veritas.com.
In the Windows case, the supported levels of firmware and drivers are different from the ones HP say is supported. Expect finger-pointing if something goes wrong.

An HSG80 pair as such doesn't require SecurePath, only if it's configured in multibus mode. Even so, you can configure hosts only to use one path thus eliminating the need for SecurePath. Of course, if the path goes down you're toast.

in an active / passive configuration (transparent failover) you would not need necessarily secure path, but can work with Selected Storage Presentation (SSP).

If it is active / active (multpath), you will require secure path.
