Hey Guys,

Does anybody know if samba works on win2k and win 2003? Is there is any documentation out there on it. I had a look on Samba.org but there is no definitive YES it does or NO it doesn't? Which is a bit unsettling when thinking of installing it on several servers.

Any help is much appreciated!!

P.

Define working on them....If you are sharing out drives in win2k, and you want samba to recognize them, then yes it will. Im not sure I totally understand your question. I assume your going to install it on lots of UNIX servers?

Well if it works under win2k then yes I would like to install it on several Unix servers so there is interoperability with windows. I mean what’s the alternative *MS Services for Unix* Which I hear is free now.

I want the win2k or win2003k servers to able to map drives to the Unix servers.

I dont see where it would be a problem. Im using Samba to connect to Win2k shares right now. Granted, im not sure how it works in the Active Directory environment, as im runing it in a workgrouped environment.

sure you can do it.. for example, in debian you load "smbfs" that is a samba client in order to mount a shared windows folder. the command in linux is:

mount -t smbfs //winserver/shared_folder /mount_point

Hope this helps you.

Cheers.
