Hello!
AIX 4.3.3 crashed.
5 disks from GigaRAID/8000 are enlisted as available.
Information about volume groups is lost.
importvg does not work.
I'm trying to make volume groups from scratch.
--does it damages files on disks?
--does it matter which PP size to enter?

After an attempt to create a volume group and
vary on it there is the following reply:
# varyonvg vg26
PV Status: hdisk7 000146152dc538d7 PVINVG
0516-052 varyonvg: Volume group cannot be varied on without a
quorum. More physical volumes in the group must be active.
Run diagnostics on inactive PVs.

Thank you for any kind of advices,
Cheers,
DmitriS

My advice is use importvg for retrieving your data . Don't try to re-create vg you will lost all your data ( at least LVs information)and after you will have great difficulty to retrieve them.
What is error's message when you try importvg ? Your raid configuration is ok ?

to kardiac,
thanks,
no importvg does not work. it cannot recover
the correspondence between hdisks and vgroups.
How do I check raid configuration?
thanks
DmitriS

Sorry for not answering before
I don't know GigaRaid/8000 hardware but can you see your physicals disk in your raid configuration ? Try smitty disk_array and search if you can find reference to your hardware.

For me, i think your disk array is misconfigured. It's for that you cannot acces physical disk. Check your hardware manual if it exist a way to reload configuration from your GigaRaid/8000.

Good luck
