Does J129 phone support system directory contact menu on IP Office R10.1?

Hi,

I have a J129 registered to IP Office release 10.1.0 and I can use Personal Directory as local contacts but I can not access to IP Office system directory.

Does somebody try manage it or have some information how does it is working?

It's documented in the R10.1 release notes

6.16 J129 Contacts
J129 R1.0 is supported with IPO 10.0 SP3 (Feb 2017). J129 software R1.1 (April 2017)
will add support for personal contacts only,.i.e., no support for System Directory on IPO
via REST API. Support for J129 with R1.1 will allow for downloading a list of personal
contacts using the existing IPO interface.
System Directory is not supported.

Hello,

We have IP Office V2 R10.1 and J129 phones (both 1.1.0.0 and 1.1.0.1 versions)
We couldn't manage to get Personal Contacts from IP Office.

We entered some test numbers to personal directory for user of J129 on IP Office but when we try to enter contacts menu on phone, it shows empty.
Besides, when we try to add new contacts on the phone, it freezes for 2 or 3 seconds, then exits to main screen.

Did anyone have trouble like this one ?

 
These are all drawbacks of having a SIP extn instead of a standard h323 extn.

Sip Extns only support basic telephone (nothing more sophisticated than an ordinary analog extn)

you get what you pay for, I cannot understand why anyone would want to use one of these even a 1603i would probably be better

Is this actually down to the difference between SIP and H323 or just the way that Avaya have implemented it on this phone?

The 1603 phones are about the same price ...
 
It is a fundamental difference between a generic sip handset & a system specific H323 handset.

I think sip is inherently incapable of supporting system specific functions.

I was about to say they aren't as bad as the 4601... but thinking about it, as a user at least the 4601 didn't make any false promises about features, it was make call/answer call/nothing else.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.
 
You could have system specific feature on SIP if you want, other systems do it.
But I don't think there is a need for it yet on the IP Office and it took years to even get basic system features on SIP for Aura.

The J129 does pretty much the same it says in the features.
The only reason people choose these as an office phone is price and stupidity, same reason people chose 1608 over 9608.
If there ever will be a cheaper phone people will start selling that since most will sell on price and not function or quality.

People prefer paper desis for an example (like the 1608) because they want to CUSTOMIZE what THEY want on THEIR button assignments and not what the SYSTEM tells them.

~Once upon a time Avaya's userbase going back to the Ma Bell, were people who were not pompous you know whats, just people LISTENING like they would do on a telephone call. Then IT people with no people skills and cost cutting prejudices came in and ruined the warm culture of the community. The End~

 
Haven't met a customer yet who says they want paper labels, but on the other hand our customer demands are not the same as in other countries so paper might be the shit in other places =)

So what happens when Avaya phases out the 96x0 and 96x1 sets. The developers of sets have stated they will not continue developing h323 phones for IPO or enterprise. J series will be the future....




 
The only people who want 1608s over 9608s are those that want to save about £75 per handset.

Is there no way to put the ip office contacts directory in J129, even in version 10.1?
 
I thought my first post (third in thread) stated pretty clear what was supported, unless Avaya released new information.
Might come in R11.

There must be some plans for better feature integration with the J series phones, as I was on a call with Avaya today and they said the planned J139 is to be placed as a replacement for the outgoing 9608!!!

IPO 10.1 J129 will pull the personal Directory only not the system Directory. personal directory seems to be limited to 100 contacts
