One of our customers objected to upgrading their old Norstar phone system with the following observation. Is this still the case or does the BCM 4.0 integrate with any version of MS Exchange? Any changes on the horizon? - their planned replacement is still 6 months away.

"Nortel systems integrate with Outlook on the desktop instead of with Exchange at the server level and this approach has many drawbacks:
1. You have to install and maintain a client on all desktops Voicemail
2. Messages don't come into the user's inbox, instead they come into a separate mailbox folder, so people with PDAs won't be able to receive their voicemails via the PDA. This also prevents opening voice mail from Outlook Web Access.
3. The audio is stored in a proprietary format."

Thanks for any help.

2007 Exchange Enterprise Edition/Office Communications Server integrate with exchange so voicmail and fax's go directly to the Exchange store. However you need a gateway to the phone system. Microsoft has a utiility to test the connection, but you need a gateway for it to work. I am currently testing this out, and have the goal to do exactly what you are wanting. As soon as i get it working, I will post. The larger Nortel MCS, and CS units are the ones that work now, but the BCM product will work soon.
