Does Avaya IPO support SRV host name lookups

Our SIP partner uses an SRV host name look up for registration. The host name resolves to 4 different servers for redundancy.

I understand how this is implemented with a Panasonic. Defaulted on in the new NS700's.

I cannot find anything similar in my IPO unit.
Other than configuring DNS, is there an option in IPO that I must look for?
Is SRV turned on by default?
Does IPO support SRV host name look ups?

Thanks :)

I took the plunge and decided the worst that could happen is my SIP trunk would not register and I can just revert to older settings.

My SIP trunk did register, which is great.

Still would like to know if IPO supports SRV hosts names out of the box or something was already configured on?

Yes it does but there was some flakiness to the implementation according to the guy who wrote the install doc for my SIP Provider. Who is your provider if you don't mind sharing?

The only reference I found on the web was for Verizon's Trunks on Dev Connect - Page 52 -

Well my SP trunks registered but I am unable to make inbound calls. It just rings. And I do not see the call hitting the PBX in System monitor?

Do you see incoming SIP requests but no responses? Try switching to either the DNS names for each of the ITSP's call servers or their IP addresses instead of the one DNS name.

I had an issue with my internal DNS Server and the IP office not updating the records when they made a change so I switched to the 3 call server IP addresses separated by commas.

I see the SIP requests but there is no answer from the IPO.

Problem with using the IP address in place of the SRV DNS host name is that calls cam come form any of the 4 servers.

EDIT:
THank you, I missed the part where you said separate by commas.
I will be replacing the SIPLine/ITSP Domain name with the SRV IP addresses separated by a comma
I will be replacing the Transport/ITSP Proxy Address with with the SRV IP addresses separated by a comma

It's gotta be your DNS server having issues. Are you using a local DNS or your ISP's? I was using my internal DNS and it wasn't working, I swapped it to use my ISP's DNS server and it has been working ever since.

If you look at the Association Method under SIP Line - Advanced. According to the settings:
The match criteria used for each line can be varied. The search for a line match for an incoming request is done
against each line in turn using each lines Association Method. The order of line matching uses the configured Line
Number settings until a match occurs. If no match occurs the request is ignored.

The reason you are seeing incoming invites but your IPO is not responding is because the IPO is trying to match the DNS Name you are providing in the ITSP section against the IP Address the invite is coming from but since your DNS is goofed up somewhere it is rejecting it.

In my case I am registered to nexvortex.com and the calls were coming in from px1.nexvortex.com and my DNS wasn't resolving the SRV Records from nexvortex.com correctly so it was rejecting the calls. Security feature working against us =)

Ive tried internal DNS, ISP DNS, and Public (8.8.8.8 and 75.75.75.75).
My SIP trunks will register just fine.
I believe the the SRV record is not resolving properly. I should be fine with public DNS servers?
SIPLine/ITSP Domain name can only use a host name, no IP address(s)

UPDATE:
I created a new SIP line and configured this SIP line with my SIP provider.
Everything works.
I can see the SIP requests and the IPO response and see the call active in system monitor.

Nice!

Who's your provider? I'm trying to compile a list of providers people have had good luck with for future partnerships.

AvantiWade,

I wrote the doc for Nexvortex. You will have a NIGHTMARE with DNS SRV records when using Nexvortex.

David,

Nice to meet you, and appreciate you taking the time to test everything out with Nexvortex! When I was signing up I kept asking if they needed to use my system as a test bed but they said they had a guy handling it all =).

What issues have you run into with DNS SRV and nexvortex? What version of IP Office are you running on? How do you like their service besides the issues?

Like I said earlier, mine ran fine for quite a while until I changed to using internal DNS servers off a 2012r2 box during our migration to a domain/AD. Once I swapped to our ISP's DNS and 8.8.8.8 for just the IP Office things have been running fine.

Thanks again, Wade
